Orville Eugene Scantlin, 89, died Friday, July 21, 2017. He was born March 16, 1928, in Gravette, Arkansas, the son of Leo Jason and Emily Gertrude (Cox) Scantlin.
He was a Korean War Navy veteran. He had been a motor mechanic for Barton Salt Company, and then a foreman for Adams Construction, Nickerson.
On October 11, 1953, he married Katherine Mae Dirksen in Hutchinson. She died May 21, 2005. Children surviving are: Sharon Adams and husband, Wes of Nickerson, Luella Bishop of Carthage, MO, Emily Kuntz of Nickerson, Sandra Scantlin and husband, John Proctor of Hutchinson, Harold and wife, Chana of Oklahoma City; brother, Kenneth of Harbor Island, AR; 21 grandchildren; 74 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; son-in-law, John Kuntz; seven sisters; and two brothers.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, July 28, 2017, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Tim Adrian presiding. Burial with military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard at Fairlawn Burial Park following the service. Visitation, with family present, will be from noon until service time Friday, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
