Obituary

Patricia "Pat" Sue Lemmon, 86, died Dec. 17, 2016, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. She was born Nov. 19, 1930, in Tulsa, Okla., to Ray William and Ruble (Bryant) Lemmon.

Pat graduated from Oxford High School in 1948. She went on to attend Southwestern College in Winfield and received a four-year degree. At the age of 17, she began her teaching career, teaching 1st through 6th grade at Oxford, in a one-room school house. Later she moved to Argonia to teach. While teaching, she began attending Kansas State Teachers College, better known as Emporia State University, where she received her bachelor's degree in education.

During the summers, Pat would visit Wyoming and work at Yellowstone National Park. While working at Yellowstone, she received her Master's degree in Teachers Administration from the University of Wyoming in 1966. She also taught in WaKeeney, but most of Pat's time was best known for teaching 6th grade in Hutchinson at McCandless Elementary School from 1959 to 1969, and serving as principal for 30 years at Roosevelt Elementary School, Hutchinson, from 1969 through 1993.

Pat was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Hutchinson, and a forty-year active member of the Ladies Golf at Prairie Dunes Country Club, joining in 1976. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and was awarded the Jennibelle Watson Award for being an outstanding teacher. She also received many awards and accomplishments over the years, such as: a Certificate of Appreciation from the Reno County Planning Commission, The Who's Who in American Education from the National Reference Institute in Washington D.C., was appointed Adjunct Associate Professor of Education at Emporia State University, and presented many workshops on how children learn and teaching styles for children. Her list of accomplishments and publications are endless. She was loved by all of her students and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include: nieces and nephews, Kelle Metz of Oakville, Wash., Steven L. Hoop of Russell, Susan Rohling of Winfield, Diane Stein of Kansas City, Mo., Kent Lemmon of Singer Island, Fla., and Kaylene Fogle of Los Angeles, Calif.; 12 great-nieces and nephews; and 13 great great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: her parents; sisters, Jacque Metz, and Peggy Hoop; brother, W. Dean Lemmon; and nephew, Kenneth W. Hoop.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016, at Grace Episcopal Church, 2 Hyde Park, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Dr. Ted J. Blakley presiding. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Union Cemetery, Billings, Okla. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
