Obituary

Patricia Ruth "Pat" (Brunson) Seward, 87, passed away peacefully Friday evening, September 11, 2015, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. Pat was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and cousin to many. She had been living independently until January of this year, when a series of illnesses caused her to move into Sunshine Meadows Retirement Center in Buhler.

She was born June 18, 1928, in Eureka, to Henry Emmett and Ruth Sarah (Hughes) Brunson. She was a graduate of Leon Rural High School and El Dorado Junior College. Following graduation, she married Robert Leroy Seward on June 12, 1948, in Newton. Two daughters were born to this union: Barbara Darlene and Catherine Alice. The family eventually moved to Florence, where Bob was a cattle ranch foreman and later owned the local hardware store. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1965. After living in Hutchinson for three years, Pat moved to Arkansas City, where she became an assistant traffic manager for ADM Milling before retiring in 1993.

After retirement, she liked to play cards, do flower arranging, cooking and volunteering at Central Christian Church. One of her favorite activities was making noodles, breadbaskets and pies. There never was a project too big for Pat to tackle and complete.

Pat is survived by: her daughters, Barbara (Jim) Rhaesa of Hutchinson, and Cathy (Bill) Teller of Lewisville, N.C.; sister, Montie Marie Rosencrantz of Fairway; brother, Harley Joe Brunson of Augusta; sisters-in-law, Margaret Brunson of Augusta, Yvonne Brunson of Hutchinson and Janice Broadhurst of Cresskill, N.J.; 10 grandchildren; 18 great- grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry Emmett Brunson Jr. and Leonard Perry Brunson.

Following cremation, a memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, 2015, at Central Christian Church, 206 W. Central, Arkansas City, with the Revs. Jim Rhaesa and Dennis Voth presiding. Memorial gifts may be made to the Central Christian Church Disciple Women's Fellowship (DWF), in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson KS 67501.
