Paul Dean Geist, 92, passed away on Dec. 2, 2015, in Hutchinson. He was born Nov. 22, 1923, in Topeka, to William F. and Mae (Hardisty) Geist.
Paul, known as Dean in high school, graduated in 1941 from Hutchinson High School. On March 26, 1943, he enlisted in the United States Army. Paul was with the 66th Infantry Division 871st Field Artillery Battalion, serving in Germany and France as a Corporal. He survived crossing the English Channel on Christmas Eve of 1944. Paul worked as a Red Cross First Aid trainer and instructor for over 20 years and retired after 40 years with Kansas Power and Light as a Regional Auditor of the 8 offices in the Hutchinson and Great Bend districts. After retirement in 1986, he worked for 10 years with AARP as a volunteer income tax preparer.
On Nov. 24, 1948, he married Gwen Gibbs. She passed away Dec. 8, 2004. He is survived by: a son, Steve Geist; daughter, Peggy Hager, both of Blanchard, Okla.; two granddaughters and two great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by: his wife.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, 2015, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Matt Stafford presiding. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.
