Obituary

Paul Henry Mendoza, 69, of Hutchinson, died February 1, 2024, at his home. He was born May 28, 1954, in Hutchinson, to Joseph Isabel and Mary Sylvina (Caudillo) Mendoza.

Paul graduated from Trinity Catholic High School and attended Dallas Theological Seminary for one year. He worked in law enforcement for over 40 years, starting as a patrol officer for Great Bend Police Department, then South Hutchinson Police Department, then Reno County Sheriff's Office, and then as a case manager for Community Corrections. Paul also worked part-time as a dispatcher for Lifeteam. He loved camping and Christmas. Paul's faith was most important and he was a member of Inspire Church (formerly First Church of the Nazarene) where he taught the "Challengers" Sr. Adult Sunday school class for many years.

On September 21, 1985, Paul married Beverly D. Sayers, in Hutchinson. She survives.

Also surviving are: his sons, Matthew Mendoza (LeAnn) of Leavenworth, Jonathan Mendoza (Jessica) of Bella Vista, AR; daughters, Megan Mendoza, Mia Mendoza, both of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Jesse Mendoza of Leavenworth, Joe Mendoza (Maggie) of Anthony, Isabelle, Zachary, Ryker Mendoza of Bella Vista, AR; great-grandchildren, Nova Mendoza, Rowe Mendoza; siblings, Robert Mendoza (Debbie Gosztola) of Hurst, TX, Mike Mendoza (Shirley), Patti Keen (Mike), all of Hutchinson, Mark Mendoza (Margarita) of San Antonio, TX, Thomas Mendoza (Jamie) of Lawton, OK, Julie Lawrence (Aaron) of Chino Hills, CA; brother-in-law, Stanley R. Ochs of Hutchinson; and many extended family members.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Amelia Ann "Annie" Ochs.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Inspire Church, 4290 N. Monroe St., Hutchinson.

Friends may sign his memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the family present to receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kansas Sheriffs' Association, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
