Obituary

Paul Allen Schweizer, 89, died unexpectedly August 16, 2026, at his home. He was born February 23, 1937, in Sterling, to Albert Daniel and Pearl Bertha (Zimmerman) Schweizer.

Paul graduated from Nickerson High School and was a life-long farmer and rancher in Reno County. He was still an active and integral part of the family’s farming operation, even checking cattle on Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with his son, Dan. Paul was a member of the Great Plains Antique Tractor Club. In addition, he served in the United States Army. Paul attended Solid Rock Bible Church, South Hutchinson.

On August 17, 1962, he married Barbara Dorene Jones, in Kirkland, WA. They were one day shy of celebrating their 64th wedding anniversary.

Paul is survived by: his wife, Barbara Schweizer; son, Dan Schweizer (Cindy), all of Sterling; daughters, Shirley Depew (Dennis) of Neodesha, Ruth Price (Dan) of Foss, OK, and Diane Edwards of Gilbert, AZ; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Pearl Schweizer and a brother, John David Schweizer.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 21, 2026, at Sterling Evangelical Bible Church, 3017 N. Sterling Road, Sterling, with Pastor Lee Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson, with honors conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Wycliffe Bible Translators or Great Plains Antique Tractor Club (to support scholarship funds for agriculture and ag-diesel students), in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
