Pedro "Pete" Vieyra, 82, died Nov. 18, 2006, at Hutchinson Hospital.
He was born May 12, 1924, in Hutchinson, the son of Louis Chavando and Bibiana Velasquez Vieyra. A lifetime Hutchinson resident, he was a retired foreman for Santa Fe Railroad.
He belonged to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson, Holy Name Society, and was a groundskeeper for the church.
On Dec. 26, 1943, he married Margaret Raya in Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survivors include: four sons, Robert and wife, Mary, Darwin, Minn., Tom and wife, Debbie, Hutchinson, Martin and wife, Sandy, Hutchinson, and Raymond and wife, Barbara, Hutchinson; a daughter, Rachel Stephens and husband, Charles, Dayton, Ore.; four brothers, Jesus "Chickey," Watsonville, Calif., Daniel, Frank and Trunkalino, all of Hutchinson; a sister, Nellie Garcia, San Antonio; and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two children, Mary Louise Vieyra and Luis Vieyra; four brothers, Bacilio, Jesus, Charles and Rojelio "Jupe"; and two granddaughters, Rochelle and Victoria Vieyra.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson. Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with Father Ned J. Blick presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park.
