Obituary

Peggy J. Long, 87, died Dec. 3, 2016, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson, of complications due to 40 years of Parkinson's Disease. She was born June 10, 1929, in Wilburton, Oklahoma, to William O. and Maude A. (Detty) Harris. Peggy graduated from Sylvia High School in 1947. She was a homemaker and member of Sylvia United Methodist Church.

On June 22, 1947, Peggy married Donald L. Long in Sylvia. He died Feb. 28, 2016.

She is survived by: daughter, Diana Howell and companion Dennis Tucker of Hutchinson; sons, Monte Long and wife Carla of South Hutchinson, Fred Long and wife Elaine of Lyons, Randy Long and wife Marla of Hutchinson, Jerald Long and wife Susan of Hutchinson; brother, Kenneth Harris and wife Georgia of Kansas City; brother-in-law, Tom Long and wife Cleta of Hutchinson; sister-in-law, Connie Harris of Hutchinson; 17 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and four great great-grandchildren.

Peggy was preceded in death by: her parents; brother, Harold Harris; sisters, Nellie Drake, Billye Brennan, Sharon Hall; son-in-law, Charles Howell; and great-granddaughter, Emily Star.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9, 2016, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Steve Gill officiating. Burial will follow in the Sylvia Cemetery, Sylvia. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, with the family present to receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Memorials may be made to Team Cole Hayden or Hospice and HomeCare of Reno County, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
