Obituary

Peggy (Day) Wiard left her earthly home for her forever home on September 2, 2021, at Hutchinson Health and Rehab. She was born September 22, 1948, to Gene and Edith (Mitchell) Day, in Hutchinson.

Peggy grew up in Reno County, attending Langdon and Fairfield schools. She enjoyed life on the farm and helping with the farm animals: dairy cows, sheep, chickens, and geese. Work in the gardens yielded earth worms, which furnished bait for fishing in the farm ponds. Peggy and her brother, Russ, were active in 4-H and worked with dairy calves and cows, sheep, and chickens as projects. She grew gardens and preserved produce for her family's consumption. Peggy lived in Reno County nearly all of her life. She graduated from Hutchinson Community College, Kansas State University, and attended Sterling College to complete an accounting major.

Peggy married Leonard Eugene "Gene" Wiard on April 10, 1972, at Westside Baptist Church, Hutchinson. A daughter, Katrina Wiard, was born to them April 20, 1974. They later divorced.

Peggy worked at Haven Steel Products in accounting and Human Resources. She retired after 23 years. She was a member of Turon Community Church and TOPS Ks #9153, Hutchinson. She was a board member for Sail of Hope International. Peggy started sewing as a child when she spent time with her Grandma Mitchell. She learned to embroider and knit before she went to school and hand sewed garments for her dolls. After the birth of her daughter, Peggy began doing custom sewing, mending, and alterations.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; daughter, Katrina Wiard-Stussy; brother, Russell Day; and nephew, Peter Day.
