Obituary

Peter Michael "Pete" Ternes, 88, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, went to be with Jesus on Feb. 15, 2015, at his home in Arlington. He was born July 18, 1926, in St. Mary's Aleppo, Kan., to Mathias and Tresia (Scheer) Ternes.

He graduated in 1944, from Clearwater High School. He then served in the Army Infantry in Germany from 1944 to 1946. He retired from Ternes Auto Service Station in Hutchinson. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson.

On April 26, 1949, Pete married Marie Elizabeth Beller in Garden Plain. She survives. Other survivors include: daughters, Judy Stephan (Dennis), Valley Center, Kathy Warren (Chuck), Hutchinson, Pat Smith, Wichita, and Nancy Schindler, Loveland, Colo.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Matt of Wichita, Wish (Betty), Conway Springs, and Bob (Sharon), Ark City. He was preceded in death by his parents.

On Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015, a parish rosary will be held at 10 a.m. and Mass held at 10:30 a.m., with luncheon to follow, all at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson, with Father Ned J. Blick presiding. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Arlington Cemetery, Arlington. Military honors will be conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church or Kansas Honor Flight, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
