Phillip E. Shanline, 90, of Hutchinson, died November 21, 2015, at Dillon Living Center. He was born September 16, 1925, in Pratt County, the son of Cliff and Alta (Bellwood) Shanline. Phil graduated from Turon High School in 1943 and from Fort Hays State University in 1949. Phil belonged to Trinity United Methodist Church and was a member of the DUO Sunday school class. He was employed by the Cessna Fluid Power Division and later by Sperry Vickers as Director of Quality and Reliability. He retired in 1990. Phil was a World War II veteran and served with the 91st Reconnaissance Wing, Fifth Air Force. He served in the Philippines and in the occupation army in Japan.
On August 24, 1947, he married Jeanne Laswell in Turon. She survives.
Other survivors include: three daughters, Elaine Proffitt of Wirtz, VA, Marcia Johnson (Mike) of Hutchinson, Nancy Morris (George) of Whitefish Bay, WI; son, Scott Shanline (Veronica) of Dublin, OH; grandchildren, Don Proffitt, Jr., Jennifer Bowden, John Penny, Angie Ediger, Spencer Morris, Gillian Drummond; and great grandchildren, Sara, Andrew, Samantha, Matthew, and Hanna Bowden, Mackenzie and Carson Penny, Colton and Avery Ediger.
Phil was preceded in death by: his parents; sister, Helen Bonnell; brother, Lloyd Shanline; and son-in-law, LCdr USN (Ret.) Donald Proffitt, Sr.
Private family graveside will take place in Turon Cemetery, Turon. The casket will remain closed. Friends may sign the book 9-5 Monday at Elliott Mortuary. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
