Obituary

Phyllis M. Hawkes, 78, of Hutchinson, died Nov. 23, 2008, at Mercy Regional Health Center, Manhattan, Kan.

She was born Nov. 21, 1930, in Minneapolis, Minn., the daughter of Wallace and Ethel Webster.

A Hutchinson resident since 1952, she retired from the Reno County Clerks Office after 20 years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a past Worthy Matron, Silver Leaf Chapter. She was also an active member of the Kansas Red Tea Sippers Red Hat Society of Hutchinson.

On March 13, 1948, she married Frank L. Hawkes. He died May 4, 1973.

Survivors include: two daughters, Donna Johnson and husband Ken of Catoosa, Okla., Sharon Bailey and husband Jerry of Herington, Kan.; a son, Frank W. Hawkes and wife Vickie of Littleton, Colo.; four grandchildren, Jason Hawkes, Brandon Hawkes, Christina Payne and Kurt Johnson; nine great-grandchildren, Derrick, Rochelle, Austin, Colton, Payton, Kayla and Lydia Hawkes, Derrick Payne and Collin Hoffman and loyal companion Shaggy Hawkes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, John Webster, and a granddaughter, Jennifer Bailey Hoffman.

Funeral will be Wednesday Nov. 26, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the Crossroads Christian Church. Friends may call noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson.
