Phyllis Schmitt's Obituary
Phyllis Schmitt, 83, died March 18, 2008, at Hutchinson Hospital. She was born Aug. 27, 1924, in McPherson, Kansas, the daughter of William E. and Astrid Akerson Rostine. She was a 1942, graduate of Hutchinson High School, was a graduated of Hutchinson Junior College and had attended Kansas State University. She was a longtime Hutchinson resident. She was a homemaker, and had been a secretary at Cessna during World War II, she also was an interior designer for Warren Schmitt Construction Co. and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She belonged to the First Presbyterian Church. She was a board member of the Hutchinson Hospital Auxiliary, board member of the Kisiwa Creek Development and had been active in the Morgan School PTA.
On June 22, 1946, she married Warren R. Schmitt in Hutchinson. He survives.
Other survivors include: three daughters, Linda Rostine Schmitt of Hutchinson, Kyle Philbeck and husband, Tommie of Hutchinson, and Lisa Barker and husband, Stan of Hutchinson; son, Phil Schmitt and wife, Cindy of Hutchinson; nine grandchildren, Nathan Schmidt and wife, Jennifer of Birmingham, AL, Evan Huber and husband Patrick of Davis, CA., Michael Schmidt of Birmingham, AL, Dan Barker and wife, Nicole of Olathe, KS, Ross Barker and wife, Chelsea of Hutchinson, Brett Barker of Lawrence, KS, Christopher Philbeck of Atlanta, GA, and Alex and Zach Schmitt of Hutchinson; two great-grandchildren; Isis Huber and Elliott Schmidt; and a brother, Boyd Rostine of Hutchinson.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael Schmitt, granddaughter, Brooke Barker, brother, William Rostine and sister, Ethelyn Van Buren.
Memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Tim Soule presiding. Friends may sign the register from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Cremation has taken place. Private family inurnment will take place in Penwell Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Brooke Barker Memorial Fund, at the Hutchinson Community Foundation, in care of Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
