Obituary

Phyllis May Southworth, 80, died Sept. 26, 2013, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born Oct. 20, 1932, in Harper County, Kan., to Charles Edgar and Olive Gertrude Collumber Cole.

She was a 1950 graduate of Argonia High School, Ottawa University in 1955, and she received her Masters from Western State, Gunnison, Colo., in 1969. Phyllis was retired from McCandless Grade School as a teacher and taught for forty years. Phyllis was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma for forty years, National Education Association in the Hutchinson area, Retired School Personnel and Silver Leaf Chapter #464 Order of Eastern Star. On June 11, 1983, she married James Riley Southworth in Hutchinson, Kan. He survives. Other survivors include: a brother, C.R. Cole and wife Ilona of Logan, Utah; nieces, Teresa Cole-Das of Oveida, Fla., Marie Meadows and husband Jerry of Greensburg, Ky.; nephews, Gene Jackson and wife Debbie of Wichita, Kan., Everett Neuhauser of Greensburg, Ky., Billy Neuhauser and wife Martha of Albuquerque, NM; five great-nieces and nephews, seven great-great-nieces and nephews, and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Chaplain Bob Phipps presiding. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, with family to receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m., and 9 a.m. to service time on Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Memorial contributions may be made to Order of Easter Star in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
