R. Arlene Barb, 91, of Hutchinson, died May 1, 2019, at Pleasant Hills, Hutchinson. She was born November 23, 1927, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Isaac and Marjorie (Chrisman) Goertzen. Arlene graduated from Hutchinson High School, attended Sterling College and received her degree in deaf education from Wichita State University. She taught deaf students in area schools for many years. Arlene also enjoyed painting and teaching painting and art. She was a member of the Cow Creek Chapter of the Kansas Old-Time Fiddlers, Pickers, and Singers, Hutchinson Music Club, ADK Sorority, and First Baptist Church.
On May 7, 1950, Arlene married Pat Barb in Hutchinson. He died March 22, 1998.
She is survived by: daughter, Dianne Bogle (John), Hutchinson; sons, David Barb, Hutchinson, Timothy Barb (Bobbi), Wichita; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Rick Cochran, Hutchinson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Arlene was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband of nearly 48 years, Pat; daughter, Leslynn Cochran; sister, Bonnie Hoskins; brothers, Darlow, Leslie, and Calvin Goertzen.
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 6, 2019, at First Baptist Church, 800 N. Main, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Jim Autrey officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, at Elliott Mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
