Ralph A. Barnes, 85, died March 22, 2006, at Thorne Care Center, Hutchinson.
He was born May 30, 1920, in rural Hutchin-son, the son of George C. and Ruby Minkler Barnes. He was a 1939 graduate of Buhler High School and a 1946 graduate of Adela Hale Business College. A lifetime Hutchinson resident, he was a former real estate broker for Barnes Real Estate and was a farmer.
He was a charter member of Bethany Church of the Nazarene. He was also a member of Hutchinson Board of Realtors and Hutchinson Home Builder's Association. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, serving in the Pacific Theatre. He received the Bronze Star.
In Oct. 1941, he married Lucy Slaughter. On Sept. 4, 1975, he married Marilyn Brewer in Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survives: two sons, Eugene Barnes and wife, Cheryl, Missouri, and Keith Barnes, Hutchinson; a daughter, Juanita Willard and husband, Ken, Reed Springs, Mo.; stepchildren, John Jordan and wife, Micki, Parker, Colo., Jerry Brewer, Centennial, Colo., Bob Brewer and wife, Melinda, Tulsa, Okla., and Becky Palmer and husband, Mike, Katy, Texas; sister-in-law, Josephine Barnes, Hutchinson; 20 grandchildren; seven-great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and 11 step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Chester; and three sisters, Dorothy Chick, Alice Barnes and Hazel Bowlinger.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethany Church of the Nazarene, Hutchinson, with Pastor Darrell Bisel presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday with the family receiving friends from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Eastside Cemetery, Hutchinson, with military graveside honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard.
