Obituary

Ralph Clifton Hawkins, 92, passed away on June 7, 2012, at his home.

Hawkins was born June 28, 1919, in Buncombe County, North Carolina and he was raised in Ozark County, Missouri.

At the onset of World War II, he enlisted in the United States Navy on Dec. 21, 1941. He met his wife Eileen Doris Aldino in New York, NY and they were married on Feb. 13, 1946, in Baltimore, Md. A decorated World War II veteran, Hawkins was recognized during the period 1941 through 1947 for his service aboard the USN Hugh L. Scott and other troop transport ships active in the American, Mediterranean, Pacific and China campaigns. He was awarded 13 military service medals and 18 ribbons including those for Meritorious Service, Good Conduct, Navy Combat and Longevity.

A career military and civilian federal employee, Hawkins served as a reservist in the Kansas Air National Guard (KANG) from 1957 to 1979. During his 24 years as a reservist, he obtained the rank of Master Technical Sergeant (MSGT) and was stationed at the former Hutchinson Naval Air Station and former Forbes Air Force Base (AFB), Topeka. He retired from the KANG 190th Civil Engineering Battalion KANG in 1976. He was also a civilian employee of McConnell AFB, Wichita. He was a member of St. Teresa's Catholic Church in Hutchinson.

Survivors include: daughter, Kathleen Hall and husband Michael of Hutchinson; and sons, Thomas of Halstead and Paul of Hutchinson. Other survivors include: six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Hawkins was preceded in death by his daughter, Noreen Hawkins and wife, Eileen Doris Aldino Hawkins. He was a loyal and honored husband, father, grandfather and veteran.

Rosary will be 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 8, 2012, at Elliott Chapel and Mass of Christian Burial will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 9, 2012, at St Teresa's Catholic Church with Father Nicholas Voelker presiding. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary.
