Obituary

Ralph E. Hoke, 94, died June 27, 2008, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.

He was born Nov. 5, 1913, at Oklahoma City, son of Charles Edward and Leah Caroline Brown Hoke.

He was a 1932 Enid High School graduate, a 1937 graduate of the University of Kansas, and a 1947 graduate from the University of Kansas School of Law.

A longtime Prairie Village resident, he moved to Hutchinson in 2004.

He worked for Farmland Industries for nearly 30 years as an attorney, specializing in oil and gas law. He made business trips to Rome, Paris, Zurich and Tripoli, Libya, from 1961 to 1963. He has traveled extensively in the United States, Europe, parts of the South Pacific and North Africa.

He was a 52-year member of the Colonial Church (UCC) in Prairie Village, and member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hutchinson since 2005.

He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

On March 1, 1942, he married Ethel May Wristen in Wichita. She survives. Other survivors include: son, Charles and his wife Carroll Hoke, Wichita; daughters, Carolyn Patterson and her husband Mike, Hutchinson; grandsons, Noah Patterson and wife Jing Song, San Diego, Calif., Evan Patterson, Tucson, Ariz.; granddaughters, Leilani Burton and husband John, Tucson, Ariz., Etienne Olson and husband Kevin, The Woodlands, Texas; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Wesley Towers Conference Room, 700 Monterey Place, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Tim Soule officiating. Family will receive friends following this service. Cremation is planned. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Wesley Towers Good Samaritan Fund, Hospice of Reno Co. or the Colonial Church (UCC), Prairie Village, in care of the mortuary.
