Ralph D. Thrash, 76, died May 15, 2014, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born Feb. 6, 1938, in Stratford, Okla., the son of Howell and Buenos (Ayers) Thrash.
Ralph graduated from Wichita West High School and then attended Friends University.
On Oct. 29, 1955, he married Joan Duryee Crawford in Wichita. He and Joan lived in Wichita at that time. In 1968, they moved to Peabody where they owned the grocery store until 1980. They then moved to Hutchinson and owned the Jack and Jill Grocery from 1980 until 1987. In 1993, he started Sunset Pawn which he was currently a co-owner and was semi retired. Ralph was a member of Eastwood Church of Christ and was a member of the former South Hutchinson Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan Thrash; sons, Russell Thrash and wife Suzanne of Wichita, Scott Thrash and wife Carol, and Darin Thrash, all of Hutchinson; brother, Gary Thrash of Bethany, Okla.; sisters, Dowanna Harrison of Bethany, Okla., Donna Mitchell of Henrietta, Texas; 11 grandchildren, Jeromy Thrash, Stephanie Ricketts, Jamie Washburn, Torie Thrash, Travis Thrash, Trevor Thrash, Derek Thrash, Stacia Biel, Tasha Thrash, Angel Thrash and Eric Pettay; 13 great-grandchildren; and his two dogs, Pierre and Sophia. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Tracy Thrash; grandson, Chris Thrash; brothers, Harold Richard Thrash, Ross Eugene Thrash; and a sister, Nellie Thrash.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2014, at Eastwood Church of Christ, Hutchinson, with Jimie-Wray Mead and Duane Eggleston presiding. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
