Raymond L. Gordon's Obituary
Raymond L. Gordon, 93, died Dec. 14, 2005, at Dillon Living Center, Hutchinson.
He was born Feb. 7, 1912, in Temple, Okla., the son of James Edward and Albion Floy Houston Gordon. He graduated in 1929 from Sterling High School and in 1936 from Sterling College. He owned a print shop in Sterling, worked for Cessna during World War II, was a chemist for the State Grain Inspection Office, and also was the night foreman in the composing room at The Hutchinson News for 26 years, retiring in 1974.
He belonged to Forest Park Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder, Sunday School Teacher, superintendent and choir member, was past president of the Choral Society and had also sung in the Messiah Chorus.
On Sept. 28, 1937, he married Mary Erskine Wilkin in Seattle, Wash. She died Nov. 26, 1998.
Survivors include: two daughters, Barbara Long and husband Larry, Santa Maria, Calif., and Janet Athavichitchanyaraks and husband Athaporn, Hutchinson; six grandchildren, Timothy Long, Becky Gerety and husband Matt, Adam Athavichitchanyaraks, James Athavichitchanyaraks, Brittany Athavichitchanyaraks and Ashley Athavichitchanyaraks; and three great-grandchildren, Rachel Gerety, James Gerety and Daniel Gerety.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Houston, Brice and James Gordon; and a sister Lois Morris.
Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, at Forest Park Presbyterian Church, Hutchinson, with Pastor Chris Davis presiding. Burial was held Friday Dec. 16, 2005, in Fairlawn Burial Park.
Memorials may be sent to Sterling College or Forest Park Presbyterian Church, both in care of the funeral home.
