MOUNT HOPE - Raymond John Kaufman, 83, died July 8, 2006, at Hospice House.
He was born July 13, 1922, in Pretty Prairie, the son of Albert Adolph and Anna J. Graber Kaufman. He was a resident of Mount Hope since 1989, moving from Oklahoma City, where he lived since 1958. He was a retired loader and clerk for Champlin Oil and Refining Co. in Oklahoma City. He retired in 1984 after 30 years of service.
He belonged to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Haven, and was a founding member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Oklahoma City. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
In June of 1949, he married Charlotte Velda Hughes in Hutchinson. She died Nov. 18, 1980. On Dec. 16, 1989, he married Lavina M. Bayless in Haven. She survives.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Linda Green, Del City, Okla., and Kathy Tulsiani, Franklin, Tenn.; a stepson, Dave Bayless, Littleton, Colo.; a brother, Vic Kaufman, South Hutchinson; four sisters, Rosie Etherton and Ruby Graber, both of Moundridge, Margie E. Kaufman, Hutchinson, and Donna Jarmer, Chapman; grandchildren, Cindy Moore, Tina Hines and Raju Tulsiani; step-grandchildren, Jarrod and Sammi Bayless; and step-great-grandchildren, Kie, Jesse and Gage Bayless.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Clifford Kaufman; and a sister, Sally Martin.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Haven, with Pastor Daniel Galschutt presiding. Military honors will be conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Cremation has taken place. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday thru Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
