Obituary

Raymond W. Vanek, 78, passed away on Nov. 6, 2014, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born on Oct. 24, 1936, in Hutchinson, the son of Ray and Maxine (Lamberth) Vanek. Ray spent 29 years in the Army National Guard. He was the Command Sergeant Major of the First 161 Field Artillery. He was also a pressman for the Hutchinson News for 30 years.

On May 10, 1985, he married Doris Clothier in Hutchinson. She survives.

Survivors include: sister, Judy and husband Doug Baker of Kansas City, Kan.; son, Ray W. Vanek III of Caldwell; daughter, Kelly Vanek of Hutchinson; stepdaughter, Sheila Harris of Hutchinson; stepson, Loren and wife Adah Harris of Sylvia; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Maxine Vanek.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10, 2014, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with Pastor Bob Phipps officiating. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with family to receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Kansas National Guard Museum or Child Care Links Association, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
