William "Bill" Soule, 78, passed away at Hospice House, on Saturday July 21, 2007.
He was born July 7, 1929, in Johnsonburg, Pennsylvania, the son of Lloyd and Elizabeth Minor Soule. He graduated in 1947 from Johnsonburg High School, Johnsonburg, Pa., Waynesburg College, Waynesburg, Pa., and McCormick Theological Seminary, Chicago, Ill., receiving his doctor of ministry in 1987.
He was ordained in the Presbyterian Church on May 15, 1954. He served as a student pastor in Sidney, Ill., and served congregations in Geneseo, Kan., from 1954 to 1958, Shawnee Mission, Kan., from 1958 to 1967, Winfield, Kan., from 1967 to 1977, and Hutchinson, Kan., from 1977 to 1991. Upon his retirement in 1991, he served a year in Berwick-Upon-Tweed, England.
A resident of Hutchinson since 1977, he has been active on many boards and agencies that served the needs of those facing difficult situations and circumstances.
On June 30, 1951, he married Inez "Zic" London in Cloe, Pennsylvania. She survives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Dana.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Liz Cordts and husband, JA of Overbrook, Kan.; three sons, Tim and wife, Debbie, Hutchinson, David and wife, Peggy, of Arkansas City, and Paul, and partner Robert Ferguson, New York City; a brother, Lloyd and his wife, Betty, of Woodburn, Ore.; seven grandsons, Casey and Tyler Cordts, Aaron, Nathan, Ryan, Andy and Matt Soule; and two great-granddaughters, Jenna and Jaylee Soule.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at the First Presbyterian Church, with Pastors the Rev. Dr. Don Owens, the Rev. Don Schroeder, and the Rev. John Blythe presiding. Cremation has taken place. The family will greet friends following the service. Friends may sign the register from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Endowment Fund of the First Presbyterian Church, or Hospice of Reno County, in care of the mortuary, 1219 North Main, Hutchinson, 67501.
