Obituary

Rhoda M. Denning, 77, died Feb. 4, 2007, at Buhler Sunshine Home.

She was born May 19, 1929, in Battle Creek, Mich., the daughter of Raymond and Velma Baker Good. In 1947, she graduated from West Frankfort High School, Frankfort, Ill., and received her clinical technician degree in 1955 from Fitzsimons Army Hospital, Denver. A longtime Hutchinson resident, she was a licensed practical nurse in both the Army and the private sector, working at Mercy Hospital, Denver, and St. John's Hospital, Salina.

She belonged to Forest Park Presbyterian Church. She was a charter member of Women in Military Service for America and was a longtime volunteer at several military hospitals and the Kansas State Fair. She had served on several church committees and Bible study groups. She was a veteran of the Korean War, serving the in the U.S. Army.

On Nov. 12, 1955, she married Elmer Denning in Oakley. He survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Paul and wife, Marianne McMullin Denning, Cincinnati; a daughter, Rhonda Denning, Hutchinson; a sister, Neoma Miller, Christopher, Ill.; three grandchildren, Daniel, James Brian and Sean; and a great-granddaughter, Olivia.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond, Harold and Kenneth Good; and two sisters, Betty and Janice Good.

Funeral will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary with Father Joseph Eckberg presiding. Additional services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney, with Father Gene Emrisck presiding. Visitation is from noon until 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday, with family to receive friends Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Friday at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney. Burial will be in Kansas Veteran's Cemetery, WaKeeney, with military graveside rites conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard.
