Obituary

Rhonda P. Elliott, 74, of Hutchinson, went to heaven, Glory!, Sept. 10, 2012, at the Kansas Medical Center, Andover, Kan.

She was born Nov. 12, 1937, in Lakeview, Minn., the daughter of Elmer and Irene Runkle Rossow.

She graduated from McPherson High School in 1955 and attended Wichita State University. When in high school, she was a cheerleader and was voted Miss McPherson High School her senior year. Rhonda has remained active as the class historian and in e-mailing class members on current events.

Rhonda married Gene Elliott March 30, 1958, in Wichita, Kan. and they moved to Hutchinson in 1965. She was a homemaker, aerobics instructor and member of the First Church of the Nazarene. Over the years, she was a Bible study leader, sang in the choir and helped organize greeters for Sunday mornings. Rhonda participated in past Follies as an actor, singer, director and choreographer. She was active in and served as a committeewoman for the Republican Party and was a co-founder of the local Patriot Freedom Alliance (Tea Party). She was a member and past president of P.E.O. Chapter BY and was active in Cub Scouts and P.T.A. She was a huge sports fan of her children and grandchildren, serving as the family photographer and cheerleader. Over the years, she and Gene have supported several charities.

Survivors include: her husband, Gene; sons, Tim and his wife Stephanie of Overland Park, Kip of Nashville, Tenn.; daughter, Jodee Elliott Bowen and her husband Kevin of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Alicia Billings, Jordan and Heather Billings, Megan Elliott, Michael Elliott, Elli Bowen, Trace Bowen, Luke Elliott and Will Elliott; sisters, Avis Curfman of Wichita and Cheryl Lucas of Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Harriet Berg.

A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, in the McPherson City Cemetery, McPherson, Kan. A service celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at the First Church of the Nazarene, 43rd and Monroe, Hutchinson, with Reverends Doug Wyatt and Bones Nay officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Elliott Mortuary. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
