ARLINGTON - Richard James Aley, 61, died April 21, 2009, at Kingman Community Hospital. He was born April 25, 1947, in Topeka, the son of Walter James and Barbara Woolpert Aley.
He was a 1965 graduate of Wichita West High School and attended the University of Kansas. He was a correctional officer at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility, retiring in 2008, and was a longtime custodian at Arlington Grade School. He was a member of the Arlington Presbyterian Church. He was a firefighter for Reno County Fire District 4 and he volunteered with EMS.
On Jan. 2, 1971, he married Karen Ann Whittier in Wichita. She survives. Other survivors include: brothers, Russ Aley, The Woodlands, Texas, and John Aley, Madison, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, with Pastor Melvin Walton officiating. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Friday at the mortuary.
