Obituary

Richard Jon "Dick" Becker, 67, died Jan. 2, 2006, at his home, Hutchinson.

He was born March 9, 1938, in Cobleskill, N.Y., the son of J. Walter and Reta Alene VanPelt Becker. He was a 1957 graduate of Schoharie, N.Y. High School and a 1963 graduate of Indiana Tech. He was a civil engineer, working for Turzillo Contracting Company of Omaha from 1963 to 1984, Borton, Inc. of Hutchinson from 1984 to 1997 and Longfellow Foundations, based from Clearfield, Iowa, 1997 to present.

He was of the Lutheran faith. He was a member of Kansas State University Victory Club, National Rifle Association and the Central Kansas Gun Club. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving from 1955 to 1962.

On Aug. 6, 1974, he married Sharleen M. Schulz in Las Vegas. She survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, Rod, Hutchinson, Kirk and his wife, Amy, Prairie Village, and Jon and his wife, Annie, Wichita; a brother, Walter, Gloversville, N.Y.; and six grandchildren, Mitchell Wood and Brooke Becker, both of Hutchinson, Ben, Luke and Ryan Becker, Prairie Village, and Hailey Mae Becker, Wichita.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Chaplain Art Maddock presiding. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, all at the mortuary. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson, with Military Honors conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
