Obituary

Richard Mark Boyd, 67, passed away December 6, 2022, at his home.  He was born October 20, 1955, in Colorado Springs, CO, to Earl Richard Boyd, Jr. and Ella Belle (Norton) Boyd.

Richard was a 1973 graduate of Coronado High School, Colorado Springs, CO.  He earned two bachelors' degrees from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.

A whiz at chess in his younger years, Richard was also a budding archeologist.  In the late 1980's, he moved to a farm in Reno County, KS, where generations of the Boyd and Haas families had resided prior to him.  Richard lived there until his death.

Richard is survived by:  his sister, Barbara (Paul) Goodwin of McLean, VA; nephews, Matthew (Natalia) Goodwin of Ashburn, VA, James (Colleen) Goodwin of Winston-Salem, NC, Andrew Goodwin (Teresa Duncan) of Arlington, VA, and Evan Goodwin of San Ramon, CA; and seven great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Earl and Belle Boyd, of Hutchinson and Colorado Springs.

A graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. MST on Monday, February 6th, 2023, at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, CO.  Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.  The family will greet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at Elliott Mortuary.  Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard's memory may be made to the Hutchinson Animal Shelter, in care of Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
