ARLINGTON - Richard L. "Dick" German, 69, died Feb. 23, 2007, at Hutchinson Hospital.
He was born Feb. 17, 1938, in Pratt, the son of Clarence and Velma Fredrick German. In 1956, he graduated from Arlington High School and then attended Hutchinson Community College. A longtime resident of Arlington, he was owner of Dick's Cycle Service, retired as gauge repairman for Cessna, and retired as a rural mail carrier for the Hutchinson, Alden and Buhler Areas. He was also a horologist, or watchmaker.
He belonged to Rural Mail Carriers Association, Kansas Antique Racers, Four Stroke Singles National Owners Club, Santa Fe Trail Association and The Wet Dry Route. He served in the Kansas National Guard for eight years.
On Dec. 31, 1959, he married Barbara A. Forwalder in Partridge. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Ray and wife, Sue, Winfield; two sisters, Marilyn Bates and husband, John, Pleasantville, N.Y., and Dolores Rudkin and husband, Frank, Belle Plaine; two grandchildren, Christina and Anastasia German; and two great-grandchildren, Lane and Terri Adams.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lois German.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Arlington Cemetery. Visitation is from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary. The casket will be closed.
