SYLVIA – Richard L. Hopkins, 81, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, died May 29, 2016, at his home in Sylvia. He was born July 14, 1934, in Iola, the son of Ted and Ruth (Robinson) Hopkins.

Richard served in the United States Army. He served with The Big Red One at Fort Riley. He was a Specialist. Richard retired from Eaton in 1996 after 37 years. Richard loved old cars. He was known as the "Cadi Man." He had three; a 1966, 1967 limo, and 1976 Cadillac convertible. He also owned a 1960 Chevy.

On Aug. 27, 1966, he married Ruth Ann Lake in Haven. They shared 49 years, nine months, and two days of marriage. Richard is survived by: wife, Ruth Ann of the home; daughters, Beverly Steffen of Sylvia, Jenny McPherson and husband Mike of Andover; grandchildren, Steph, Jessie, Ronnie, Jessica, Nicole, John, Caleb, Noah, Lauren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert Hopkins (Dieanne), Jerry Hopkins (Sue); sisters, Sharon (Larry), Pat, Shirley (Terry); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his parents; a brother, Ted Jr.; sister, Donnis; and son, John W. Hopkins.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2016, at Westside Baptist Church, 400 W. 12th Ave, with Pastor Tim Adrian officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Elmer, with military honors conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
