Richard L. "Dick" Jerde, 65, died Aug. 31, 2011, at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson. He was born April 14, 1946, in Rock Rapids, Iowa, to Palmer E. and Eula A. Shropshire Jerde. He retired from Eaton Corporation after 35 years.

On Nov. 23, 1967, he married Doris Thompson in Hutchinson. She survives. Other survivors include: son, Rick Jerde of Hutchinson; sisters, Mary Dove and companion Glen Myers of Hutchinson; Carla Leach and companion Ed Myers of Hutchinson, Tammie Hazell and husband Johnnie of Hutchinson; sisters-in-law, Linda Richardson and husband Don, Kay Morris and husband Gary; beloved dog, Millie; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his brother, John Lane Jerde; his parents; and stepfather, Virgil Bickel.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Charles Kerr officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, with military honors conducted by the National Guard Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
