Richard Merlin Line, 64, died May 12, 2015, at his home. He was born May 7, 1951, to Merlin E. and Mary (Gasche) Line in Garden City.
Richard graduated from K-State and received a master's degree in psychology from St. Cloud, Minn., and a master's degree in social work from KU. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church. He had practiced as a psychotherapist for over 35 years. He was one of the innovators for the Personal Safety Awareness program in Hutchinson. He had a passion for his family.
On Dec. 31, 1981, Richard married Valerie Ann Johnson in Hutchinson. She survives. Other survivors include: son, Tony Line and wife Callie of Overland Park; granddaughter, Campbell Line; mother, Mary Line of Overland Park; mother-in-law, Barbara Johnson of Hutchinson; sisters, Joyce Dugger and husband Doug of Overland Park, Gayle Zuk and husband Michael of Overland Park; sisters-in-law, Vicki Hindes and husband Jim of Denver, Colo., Jeanie Weeks and husband Alan of Hutchinson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and infant daughter, Charley Line.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday, May 15, 2015, at Grace Episcopal Church, 2 Hyde Park, Hutchinson, with The Right Reverend Michael P. Milliken presiding. The family will greet friends following the service. Burial will be at a later date in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Friends may sign the memorial book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
