Richard J. "Murph" Murphy, 60, died Jan. 12, 2008, at Hutchinson Hospital.
He was born Oct 14, 1947, in Newburyport, Mass., the son of Frederick T. and Margaret T. Foley Murphy. He graduated from Newburyport High School, received his bachelor's degree from Kansas State University and attended Hutchinson Community College. A resident of Hutchinson for 10 years, he was a machinist for Eaton Corporation.
He belonged to the local machinist union. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
On March 9, 1970, he married Peggy D. Bruner in Junction City. She survives.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Candice Schulman, White City; two stepsons, John Edward Calloway, Vail, Ariz., and Robert Eugene Calloway, McPherson; two brothers, Fred, Milford, N.H., and Kevin, Newburyport, Mass.; a sister, Kathy Whitman, Newburyport, Mass; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a granddaughter.
Cremation has taken place. Private family services will be held at a later date.
