Rick L. Shober, 66, died February 7, 2019, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. He was born March 11, 1952, in Ephrata, PA, to Clifford Lee and Jean Marion (Dunkelberger) Shober.
Rick graduated from Cocalico High School in Denver, PA. He was a supervisor for American Maplan Corporation in McPherson with 20 years of service. Most recently, he worked at Midwest Electric (formerly Gibson Industrial Controls). Rick was an avid softball player and coached McPherson Lady Express. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, watching sports (especially the Philadelphia Flyers & Eagles) and listening to a wide variety of music, especially from the 70's and 80's. He was a devoted husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, and friend. Rick was always willing to lend a helping hand or a listening ear to his family and friends.
On August 29, 1987, he married Brenda Kay Reiser in Groveland, Kansas. They shared 31 years of marriage.
Rick is survived by: wife, Brenda of McPherson; daughters, Randi Shober (Dave) of Reinholds, PA, Kasey Connor of Steamboat Springs, CO; granddaughters, Emerald Shober (Mark), Reagan Zerbe; great-grandson, Axel Wolf; mother, Jean Shober; sisters, Lynne Bupp (Terry), Valerie Morris, Pamela Kerns (Mel), Marg Reider (Robert), Teena Haake (Keenan); sister-in-law, Jan Shober; brother, Terry Shober; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends in both Kansas and Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by: his father, Clifford; stepfather, Laurel 'Rusty' Rusk; brother, Rodney Shober; and brother-in-law, Steve Morris.
Celebration of Life will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2019, at McPherson Free Methodist Church, 1010 S. Maple Street, McPherson. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2019, at McPherson Free Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rick Shober Memorial Fund, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
