Obituary

BUHLER - Robert W. Arbuckle, 82, died Nov. 12, 2011, at Hospice House.

Bob was born Jan. 19, 1929, in Hutchinson, the son of Thomas E. Arbuckle, Sr. and Mildred Astle Arbuckle.

He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1946 and the University of Kansas in 1951 with an Architectural Engineering degree. He served with the Navy Seabees during the Korean War. After his discharge, he worked as a structural design engineer in Denver, Colo. Upon his return to Hutchinson in 1953, he did the structural engineering and design for numerous buildings located throughout Kansas. These include Buhler High School, the Sports Arena renovation, Wesley Towers Retirement Community, Nations Bank, Holy Cross Catholic Church, The Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center and the Public Works Facility for the City of Hutchinson. He was a member of the Kansas Engineering Society, the National Society of Professional Engineers and the Advisory Board to the School of Architectural Engineering at the University of Kansas. He previously served on the Hutchinson Planning Board as well as the Reno County Planning Board and was a Council member of the City of Buhler. He was nationally recognized for the breeding and exhibiting of Brahma Bantam poultry and was a lifetime member of the American Brahma Club.

Bob is survived by his wife Karla; a daughter, Dana (Bruce) McBratney, West Lafayette, Ind.; two sons, David, Springfield, Mo., and Jess, McPherson; two step-sons, Adam and Darren (Pamela) Pousson, all of Lawrence; 10 grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.

Bob was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas E. Arbuckle, Jr.; a sister, Ruth Amy Struxness; a grandson, Shawn Thomas McBratney and a daughter-in-law, Kim Arbuckle.

Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 140 E. 30th, with Pastor Tim Carey officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church and a private burial will be held at the Andover Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may sign the book Monday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

Memorials can be made to the Endowment Association of the University of Kansas, the Emanuel Lutheran Church or Hospice of Reno County, all in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, 67501.
