Robert N. "Bob" Avery, 79, of Hutchinson, died Jan. 28, 2012, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.
Bob was born Feb. 16, 1932, in Duncan, Okla., the son of Emitt and Bertha Splane Avery.
He moved to Hutchinson with his family at a young age, and attended Hutchinson schools and graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1951. He later graduated from Salt City Business College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Bob owned and operated Avery Trucking for many years in Hutchinson. He later, along with his wife, owned and operated Memory Lane Antiques in Hutchinson. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
Bob married Roberta Totten on Nov. 6, 1951, in Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, David L. Avery and wife Shree, Lyons, and Scott Avery and wife Denise, Hutchinson; a daughter, Valerie Sue Avery, Hutchinson; a brother, William L. Avery, Hutchinson; a sister, Viola Stamper, Lawton, Oklahoma; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Ethel Coupples, Cora Strayer, and Thelma Karriker; a son, Tony Avery in 1969; and a step-grandson, Josh Borders.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at Elliott Mortuary, with Pastor Harold Nelson presiding. Burial will be at Fairlawn Burial Park with Military Honors by the US Army Honor Guard. Visitation will be Tuesday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the family greeting friends from 7 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, at Elliott Mortuary.
