Obituary

Robert C. Bacon, 81, died Feb. 24, 2006, at Hutchinson Hospital.

He was born Sept. 20, 1924, in Reno County, the son of Stuart Virgil and Aileen Ruth Strandberg Bacon. He graduated from Hutchinson High School, Hutchinson Community College and Kansas State University. A lifetime Reno County resident, he was a farmer.

He belonged to Park Place Christian Church, serving as Elder Emeriti and Sunday school teacher, he was a moderator of the Christian Church in Kansas, Disciples of Christ, General Board, Disciples of Christ, Heifer Project International Board for 10 years, served one year as chairman of the Reno County Farm Bureau Board, Haven High School Board, CROP Board of Reno County, the South Central Farm Management Board, ASCS Board, Haven Coop, Mental Health Association and the Axtell Christian Hospital Board for 26 years.

On March 11, 1952, he married Juanita Gallager at Los Angeles. She survives.

Other survivors include: their children, Hannah Fenley and husband, Dave, Kansas City, Mo., Ruth Gibson and husband, Craig, Hutchinson, Robert A. and wife, Susan, Hutchinson, and Julia Spitz and husband, Dan, Champaign, Ill.; a sister, Hannah Eldridge, Valparaiso, Ind.; and nine grandchildren, Paul and Ann Fenley, Alison and Laura Gibson, Rachel, Caroline and Tom Bacon, and Kent and Luke Spitz.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Pete Bacon.

Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Park Place Christian Church, with Pastor Kim Biery presiding. Friends may sign the register from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at Elliott Mortuary. Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Heifer Project International, in care of the funeral home.
