Obituary

Robert Lee “Bob” Bruce, 62, of Nickerson, died unexpectedly July 18, 2026, at his home. He was born December 22, 1963, in Atwood, Kansas, to Weslye and Mary (Eaton) Bruce.

Bob graduated from Nickerson High School in 1982 and attended Hutchinson Community College. He worked as the number one operator at CHS Refinery in McPherson for over 28 years. Bob’s work ethic was difficult to be matched; when he saw an issue, he solved the issue immediately.

On August 14, 1993, Bob married Kimberly Showalter, in Hutchinson. They shared nearly 33 years of marriage before his death.

Bob was a hardworking and dependable man who found joy in the outdoors and working with his hands. An avid hunter, fisherman, and trap shooter, he loved spending time in nature and sharing those experiences with family and friends. Bob spent time teaching his daughter how to trap shoot and enjoyed competing with her, mostly because he won a lot. A true jack of all trades, he had a gift for building, repairing, and creating almost anything. Bob will be remembered for his strong work ethic, generous spirit, and willingness to help others. His legacy lives on through the love he shared, the things he built, and the many memories cherished by those who knew and loved him.

Bob is survived by: beloved wife, Kim Bruce of the home; daughters, Brandi Leigh Bruce and Destiny and Zachary McFarland of Wichita; parents, Weslye and Mary Bruce of South Hutchinson; and brother, Brian and Karen Bruce of Medora.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harlond and Ruby Bruce and Evert and Hilda Eaton.

Family to receive friends 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2026, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel.
