Robert P. "Bob" Cowan, 89, died April 22, 2007, at Hutchinson Hospital.
He was born Jan. 26, 1918, in La Junta, Colo., the son of Richard William and Nellie Smith Cowan. He attended Nickerson schools. A resident of Hutchinson, he was a heating technician, civilian employee at Hutchinson Naval Air Station, and when it closed, was civilian employee for McConnell AFB, Wichita, until retirement.
He was a member of American Legion Lysle Rishel Post No. 68 in Hutchinson and Paradise Pastures Golf Club. He served in the U.S. Navy.
On Nov. 24, 1941, he married Loretta P. Stark in Lyons. She died Oct. 24, 2000.
Survivors include: two sons, Jim and wife, Gale, Burrton, and Jerry and wife, Betsy, Hutchinson; a sister, Betty Baltrusch, Havre, Mont.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Linda Carthers in 1969; three brothers; and a sister.
Memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with Pastor Harold E. Nelson presiding. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and until service time Thursday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson.
