Robert Lee "Bob" Currie Sr., 75, died July 10, 2010, at Thorne Care Center, Hutchinson.
He was born July 26, 1934, in Hutchinson, to John William and Ella May Wells Currie.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1957-59. He was awarded the Medal of Marksman and the Good Conduct Medal. He then served in the Army Reserves from 1959-63.
He operated Bob Currie Upholstery for more than 25 years, then worked at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility KCI program as an instructor until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
On February 27, 1955, he married Leah Norine Thompson in Sterling. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Robert Jr. and wife Stasi, Overland Park; a daughter, LeAnn Brower and husband Bruce, Hutchinson; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Nola Rumsey, Hutchinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Currie Jr.; and sister-in-law, Beverly Currie.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2010, in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson, with Pastor Jeanine I. Rishel officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, with the family to receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kansas Spina Bifida Association or Shriners Hospital, in care of the mortuary. The family is having the service videotaped for those who are unable to attend. Contact the mortuary for more information.
