Robert A. "Bob" Hendershot, 87, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014, at Hester Care Center. He was born June 6, 1927, in Hutchinson, the son of Chester and Helen Lyman Hendershot.
He was a 1945 graduate of Partridge High School, attended 10th Avenue United Methodist Church, U.S. Army veteran, 507th ORD SV Detachment, serving in the Pacific Theater. Bob had been a tool grinder and machinist for Cessna Fluid and Power, retiring in 1988 with over 30 years of service.
In 1948, he married Beverly Jean Pointon in Hutchinson. She survives. Other survivors include: their children and their spouses, Randy and Susan of Topeka, Robin and Tom Clark, Junction City; a brother, Maurice of Wichita; three granddaughters, Kerrie and Brad Iams, Errin and Jeremy Brown and Alexandria Clark; three great-grandchildren, Bryson and MacKenzie Iams and Hadley Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Roger, Wilbur, Royal and Marie Hendershot; and grandson, Sean Clark.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Reverend Richard G. Brooks presiding. Burial with military honors by Ft. Riley Honor Guard will be at Laurel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the church in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
