Robert G. 'Bob' Hodgkinson, age 83, of Hutchinson, died March 17, 2018, at Brookdale of Hutchinson. Bob was born January 20, 1935, in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Robert R. and Bertha (Mettscher) Hodgkinson.
He was a 1953 graduate of Pratt High School, then attended Garden City Community College and Wichita Business College, earning his business degree. He proudly served in the United States Navy in Okinawa, Japan, from 1953 to 1955. A Hutchinson resident since 1966, Bob was hired to set up the first mainframe computer for the Dillon's Company, and then worked as Vice-President Controller for Jackson Ice Cream, Co., until his retirement in 1984. During retirement, Bob set up his own accounting service at the Quest Center, helping many small businesses get a head start. He volunteered at the Dillon Nature Center, served on the board for Interfaith Housing Services, and relished time spent with his family.
On January 1, 1958, Bob married Estie Viola Deaver in Wichita, Kansas. She died May 6, 1995. Survivors include: sons, Robert E. Hodgkinson (Cheryl) of Stilwell, KS, Randall L. Hodgkinson (Marlana) of Topeka, Kansas, Dennis Lehman (Susan) of Hutchinson, KS; a daughter, Rhonda L. Willome (Mike) of Wichita, Kansas; brothers, Delmar Hodgkinson of Pratt, Kansas, Dennis Hodgkinson of Osawatomie, Kansas; and his very special friend for the last 15 years, Kathleen Peters of Hutchinson. Bob has three grandsons: John Willome, Daniel Hodgkinson, and Andrew Hodgkinson.
He was preceded in death by: an infant brother, Delbert; parents, Bertha and Robert Hodgkinson; and sister, Shirley Davis.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2018, at Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Luke Helmuth officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary. The casket will remain closed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dillon Nature Center or Interfaith Housing Services, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson.
