Robert Howard "Bob" Tolar, died March 10, 2026, at his home. Bob was born August 23, 1938, in Hutchinson, to Ralph Howard and Alice Mae Tolar.

Bob graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1956, Hutchinson Junior College in 1958 and Kansas State University in 1961, where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. Bob served in the Air National Guard from July 1961, until July 1967, with the rank of Staff Seargent.

Bob was an active member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, serving 15 years on the Church Council, served as Usher and Head Usher, and was Chairman of several church committees. He was a past member of Rotary Club (Beloit Chapter), AMBUCS, Civitan and Quarter Back Club of Hutchinson. Bob was a huge fan of K-State University. He loved spending time as much time as he could with his sons and grandsons.

Bob was employed at Security Elevator Co. in Hutchinson and Hugoton; Kansas State Grain Inspection, Warehouse Division; Colorado State University in Nigeria, West Africa; Farmland Industries; General Manager at Whiting Coop, IA; Farmway Coop, Beloit; International Multifoods, OH; Far Mar Co, Hutchinson; Shield Ag, South Hutchinson and dedicated over 25 years as a part-time employee for Elliott Mortuary.

On July 7, 1963, Bob married the love of his life, Joan Marie Fast, in Hutchinson. Joan passed away on March 25, 2024.

Bob is survived by: sons, Dwight Tolar and wife Mary, Manhattan, KS and Don Tolar, Cheney, KS; grandsons, Alex Tolar, Manhattan, KS, Drew and Reece Tolar, Cheney, KS; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews.

Bob is preceded in death by: parents; wife, Joan Tolar; brother, Byron Tolar and wife Julia; sisters-in-law, Joyce Hesse and husband Ted, and Jean May and Husband Bob; nephew, Stephen May; niece, Linda Tolar; and nephew, Michael Tolar.

Friends may sign the book daily 9 am until 5 pm at Elliott Mortuary. Memorial Service will be 2:00 p.m., March 31, 2026 at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 140 E. 30th, Hutchinson, with Pastor Lisa Simmelink presiding. Military Honors will be conducted by McConnell AFB Honor Guard. Family will greet friends Monday, March 30, 2026 from 6pm until 8pm at the church.
