Obituary

WICHITA – Dr. Robert "Bob" Brust, 67, died March 13, 2014, in Wichita, Kan. Bob was born on Oct. 21, 1946, to Rev. Emil and Martha Brust in Bückeburg, Germany.

He married Joan Catherine Edge on June 30, 1971, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He is survived by his wife, Joan; a son, Eric and Katie Brust; grandsons, Henry and Maxwell Brust; brothers, Garry and Evelyn Brust, Harry and Helen Brust, Al and Diana Brust; and sister-in-law, Karen and Lawrence Bates. Bob graduated from the University of Alberta in 1971 and did residencies at both the Mayo Clinic and University of Alberta. He moved his family to Hutchinson in 1977 and he practiced internal medicine and gastroenterology until ill health forced his retirement in 2009. He enjoyed playing the piano, listening to incredibly loud music, and hiking in the Canadian Rockies. Bob was a lifelong athlete, competing in many sports. His true passion was cycling, which he took up around the age of 40. He continued to ride until 2012, thanks to his good friends in his cycling group.

At Bob's request, no services will be held. The family would like to express their appreciation for the excellent care provided by Cypress Springs Alzheimer's and Memory Support Residence in Wichita, Kan., and Harden Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Kansas Cycling Association, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main Street, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
