Robert C. Nicklin, "Nick", 90 passed away Feb. 4, 2015, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born Feb. 19, 1924, in Darlo, Kan., to Willis and Faye (Cogswell) Nicklin.
Robert graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1942. On Aug. 31, 1947, he married Nadine Helm in Hutchinson. She passed away Jan. 13, 2000.
Robert retired after 43 years as foreman of the composing room for The Hutchinson News. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943-45. Robert loved the game of baseball; his favorite team was the Kansas City Royals. Since 2001, he traveled to all the major baseball stadiums to watch a game, or he would listen to a game on the radio and television at the same time.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Craig Nicklin; brother, Homer Nicklin; and sister, Ninamay Geist. Survivors include: sons, Robert Nicklin of Sterling, Dennis Nicklin of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Nicole Barnes and husband Tod of Galesberg, Ill., Kimberly Nicklin of Falls Church, Va., Shaun Nicklin, of Golden, Colo., Allison Nicklin of Philadelphia, Pa.; great-grandchildren, Keegan Barnes, Carys Barnes; nephews, Fred Geist, Steve Geist; niece, Martha Geist.
Funeral service 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2015, at Zion Lutheran Church, Hutchinson, with Pastor Sherri Ellwood presiding. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015, and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
