Robert "Bob" Gene Rietveld, 83, died Feb. 2, 2014, at Hospice House. He was born Sept. 26, 1930, in rural Pella, Iowa, to Dick and Clara DeGoey Rietveld.
He married Geraldine "Gerry" VanDerLeest in Prairie City, Iowa, on Aug. 18, 1952.
They moved from Newton, Iowa, in 1963. He served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He enjoyed small engine repair in his spare time and after retirement. Bob was a member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church and had served as an Elder and Deacon at the former Northminster Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Gerry; a daughter, Ann Collins and husband Mark of Shawnee, Kan.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, LaVerne VanDursseldorp of Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Beatrice Aalbers; and a daughter, Brenda Miller.
Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Dr. Joseph S. Rychcik presiding. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Friends may call Wednesday from 1 to 9 p.m. and Thursday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
