Obituary

Robert I. Gillen, 80, died Jan. 9, 2017, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born Aug. 22, 1936, in Harper County, to Arnold P. and Margaret A. (Goetz) Gillen.

Bob graduated from Kingman High School in 1954. He retired from the City of Hutchinson Finance Department. Bob was a member of Church of the Holy Cross and Chancel Choir for over 40 years.

On Nov. 25, 1972, he married Carolyn J. Sasse in Hutchinson. They shared 44 years of marriage. Bob is survived by: wife, Carolyn; son, Stuart Gillen and wife Ginger of Austin, Texas; daughters, Christine Schletzbaum and husband Jeff of Hutchinson, Gretchen Gillen of Kansas City, Mo.; grandchildren, Kayla and Sydney Gillen, Zachary, Gillian and Tyler Schletzbaum; sisters, Rosella Thissen and husband Bob of Augusta, Lorraine Yalong of Fresno, Calif., Virginia McKenna of Ft. Scott; and brother, Fred Gillen and wife Margaret of Kingman. He was preceded in death by: his parents; sisters, Esther Ross, Louise Steffen, Catherine Lauener, and Mary Odell; and infant brother, James Gillen.

Cremation has taken place. Parish rosary will be 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, at Church of the Holy Cross, 26th and Plum, Hutchinson. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Father Bob Pinninti officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today through Thursday, with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Memorials may be made to Church of the Holy Cross, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
