ARLINGTON - Robert L. Kuhns, 85, died Dec. 18, 2011, at Haven House, Haven.
He was born in Reno County, Kansas, May 12, 1926, to John C. and Grace (White) Kuhns.
He was the last survivor of 15 children.
On May 24, 1946, he married Irena Fay Fulton. She survives, along with their four children, Claudia Kuhns of Denver, Les Kuhns and wife Jeanette of Tobyhanna, Pa., Elaine Schmidt and husband Zach of Hutchinson, and LeAnn Kirkpatrick of Topeka. Other survivors include six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Robert graduated from Arlington Rural High School in 1944. He served in the Merchant Marine during World War II. Robert was a lifelong farmer, inventor and entrepreneur. Later in life he created artworks from historical railroad spikes and other found objects, which he gave to family and friends.
Following his request, his body has been donated to KU Medical School to further education. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Dec. 22-23, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
Memorial service will be January 28, 2012, at Arlington United Methodist Church with Pastor Dennis Wallace presiding. Friends may sign the book 9-9 Tuesday through Friday at Elliott Mortuary.
Memorials may be made to Arlington United Methodist Church or Hospice of Reno County, in care of the mortuary.
