Robert E. "Bob" Lee, 82, died April 16, 2014, at his home in Hutchinson. He was born May 16, 1931, in Rocky Ford, Colo., the son of Walter M. and Agnes B. (Teter) Lee.
Bob enlisted in the Army in March of 1952. He had attended Hutch inson High School and was employed at the Bond Bakery before entering the service. Prior to enlistment, he was a member of the Kansas National Guard Unit. He received basic training at Fort Riley and graduated from non-commissioned officer's school in Ulm, Germany, with honors, where he ranked second in his class of 89 students, and was presented a gold wristwatch by Gen. Matthew Ridgway. Upon returning from the service, Bob worked as a machinist for Cessna/Eaton Corp., from which he retired. He was a member of the Eaton Club and the Machinist Union. Bob was an avid bowler.
He married Donna Haas and they later divorced. He then married Goldie Bernice Ortner in 1974, in Hutchinson. She died Jan. 1, 2010. He is survived by five children, Mike Lee and wife Terri of Kansas City, Mo., Randy Spillman of Hutchinson, Pat Lee and wife Anne of New Port Richey, Fla., Janet Bieghler and husband Clarence, and Ronald Lee, all of Hutchinson; two sisters, Wilma Meier of Pratt, Elnora Phillips of Clearwater, Fla.; 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda Munger; daughter-in-law, Melissa Spillman; brother, Walter Franklin Lee; and a sister, Barbara Garver.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Jack McMillian presiding. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Homecare of Reno County, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
