Robert Eugene Luman, 81, died Nov. 22, 2008, at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson.
He was born June 2, 1927, in Hutchinson, the son of Daniel "Doc" and Hazel A. Hutton Smyres. He attended Nickerson and Hutchinson schools. He was a lifetime Reno County resident. He was a mechanic for Morton Salt Company for 40 years, retiring in 1989.
He was a volunteer for RSVP, and was very active at the Delos V. Smith Senior Center. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific.
On March 28, 1948, he married Clara C. Nusser, in Hutchinson. She died June 15, 2006. Survivors include: three sons, Mike and wife Terry, Nickerson, David and wife Debbie, Lawrence, and Steve and wife Barbara, Hutchinson; two daughters, Betty Jo Luman Schmickle and husband Joe, Hutchinson, and Ronda Bigger and husband Jim, Alamogordo, N.M.; a sister, Alice Johnson, Hutchinson;two step sisters, Maxine McMurray and Marie Treaster, both of Hutchinson 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a companion, Dona Taggart, Hutchinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, four brothers, Charles Wilbur, Raymond, Leonard, and Darrell Luman, and two sisters, Velda Cavanaugh and Lois Buggeln.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday Nov. 26, 2008, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor John Warring presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson, with military graveside rites conducted by the Navy Honor Guard.
Memorials may be sent to the Salvation Army, or the Delos V. Smith Senior Center, both in care of the mortuary.
